WHY ANUOMET?
Anuomet is a Lithuanian word that means “back then” - a distant, undefined moment in the past. It is not yesterday, not last week, but somewhere a little further away - more of a feeling than a date.
The studio is all about the present - making it inspiring and beautiful - but it’s built on ideas and memories from back then, and the aspirations for what’s next. The way past experiences shape contemporary expression. The way our homes hold old stories and inspire us to create new ones. The way we are formed by who we once were and the creative journeys that brought us here.
That’s what Studio Anuomet is - a space where new ideas and meanings are constantly added while art is created, concepts developed and visual stories, that connect past and present, crafted. With the hope that those stories will stay for the future too.
As now will be anuomet someday.
WHO’S BEHIND?
Hi – Gabija here. Or Gabi, to most, on most days. The main mind and hands behind Studio Anuomet.
From Kaunas, via London, to Berlin. I graduated from London College of Fashion (UAL) with a degree in Fashion Illustration, and while my creative path has stretched far beyond drawing, it’s always remained a strong part of what I make and the way I think.
Over the past decade, I’ve worked across window and retail displays, event styling, prop-making, set design, and art production - not only making things by hand, but developing concepts, experimenting with materials, building small and larger visual worlds.
This mix of experiences - and having created something for as long as I can remember (really!) shaped how I see materials, objects and spaces, noticing how they interact not just together, but with us.
Finding something special in the ordinary is kind of my thing. Working mainly with paper and wood, but also textiles, found objects and natural elements - I am always seeking to see them in a new light. An unexpected colour pairing might spark a new print; an accidental texture, a whole painting. And at home, it's the same eye at work for me - rearranging, adding more art, creating space for the next idea.
Always making, always chasing interesting.
